Stop the Release of Sensitive Voter Data and Protect Texas Voters from Purges

The Issue

The Texas Secretary of State has handed over sensitive voter data—including birth dates, driver's license numbers, and partial Social Security numbers—to the Trump administration’s Department of Justice.

This move raises serious questions about voter privacy, data misuse, and the potential for mass voter purges. The DOJ has sued over 20 states for refusing to share their voter rolls. Texas chose to comply—without public hearings or full transparency.

Voting rights groups and legal experts warn that the DOJ’s purge process could violate federal law. It risks removing eligible voters in a presidential election year. The DOJ’s own documents suggest states will have 45 days to “correct” issues or lose control over the process. That’s not oversight. That’s coercion.

Federal law prohibits voter roll removals within 90 days of an election. But Texas is headed into a busy election cycle with a March primary, a May runoff, and a November general election.

We, the voters of Texas, demand:

  • Full public release of the agreement between the state and DOJ
  • A pause on any list purging activity until after the 2026 election
  • Stronger legal protections for voter data and registration rights

Our voter rolls should not be turned into political tools. Sign this petition to tell Texas leaders: protect our vote and our privacy.
