STOP THE DESTRUCTION. SAVE THE LAKES.

STOP THE DESTRUCTION. SAVE THE LAKES.
The Issue
Through public records requests, we obtained project plans affecting the historic Shaker Lakes Parklands that were not previously shared with the community. These plans propose large-scale alterations inconsistent with historic preservation, transparency, and public stewardship.
NOTE: Please DO NOT GIVE MONEY. It is confusing but this does NOT go to the Conservancy.
We call for an immediate PAUSE of the Shaker Lakes Parklands Project, including:
• Removal of more than 1,000 trees and substantial wetland loss
• Armoring of the Lower Lake shoreline with approximately 100 tons of riprap
• Any action that would irreversibly alter or damage the historic lakes, watercourses, or cultural landscape
This PAUSE must remain in effect until:
• The full Section 106 review of the historic cultural landscape is completed, as required by law
• Public input is formally received, documented, and meaningfully addressed
• An independent evaluation is performed regarding the Upper Lake, including the extent of damage and feasibility of restoration, following actions taken prior to completion of required permitting and approvals
• All affected parties are included as signatories to any agreement determining the future of the historic lakes and surrounding cultural landscape
Who we are: The Shaker Lakes Conservancy https://shakerlakesconservancy.org/home is a concerned group of stakeholders from neighborhoods in Cuyahoga County and throughout the region. We support these essays. Here is the newest:
So, about those thousand (mostly native and healthy) trees at Horseshoe Lake.... https://shakerlakes.blogspot.com/2026/03/so-about-those-thousand-mostly-native.html?spref=fb&m=1
