Having spent countless hours reading about the negative impact of high-voltage power lines on communities and the environment, I felt compelled to act before it's too late. Proposed 765 kV power lines are set to cut through Indiana, beginning south of Fort Wayne, and stretching across our treasured lands only to arrive northeast in Michigan. This decision, if left unchallenged, will irreversibly harm our serene landscape and the very fabric of our communities.

The construction of these power lines is more than an eyesore; it's a disruption to our ecosystems and lives. Research shows that high-voltage lines can significantly impact pollinating creatures, which are vital for maintaining our agricultural systems and the natural balance of our environment. These creatures support the growth of our crops, the health of our gardens, and ensure the survival of diverse plant species. With an ever-growing awareness of the importance of biodiversity, allowing these power lines to threaten such crucial wildlife is simply unacceptable.

Moreover, the path of these power lines threatens to devastate vast swathes of farmland. Indiana's agricultural community is a cornerstone of our local economy, supporting families and providing numerous products we all depend upon. Destroying farmland for the sake of infrastructure neglects our state's heritage and endangers future food security.

In addition to environmental and economic concerns, these power lines infringe on private residential properties. Homes that once enjoyed peaceful surroundings will be overshadowed by towering structures and humming wires, not to mention the potential health concerns related to electromagnetic fields. The presence of such infrastructure is known to devalue property and ruin the idyllic nature of our neighborhoods.

While the necessity for infrastructure development is undeniable, there are always more considerate and sustainable solutions. Technological advancements in renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, provide cleaner alternatives that do not demand sacrificing our environment or community well-being. Routing lines parallel to existing transportation corridors or using underground cabling where possible are also viable options that should be thoroughly explored.

We urge decision-makers to reconsider and redirect these plans. The preservation of Indiana's landscape, agriculture, and communities must be prioritized over unnecessary and destructive development. We can harness power more responsibly without compromising our environment and our homes.
