Stop Facial Recognition for Delivery Drivers in Recovery

The Issue

Recovering Lives, Not Faces:

For recovering addicts, finding stable work and rebuilding a normal life is a constant challenge. Delivery apps like DoorDash and Uber offer a valuable opportunity for many in recovery to gain financial independence and contribute to society. However, a recent discovery threatens this opportunity: the potential use of facial recognition technology by these companies.

Why Facial Recognition Hurts Recovery:

Triggering Technology: The fear of being identified at a past location associated with their addiction can be a major trigger for recovering addicts. Facial recognition scans introduce unnecessary stress and anxiety into their daily routine.

Privacy Under Assault: Recovery often requires a strong sense of privacy. Linking someone's past struggles with their current job through facial recognition data can be a violation of their privacy and fuel feelings of shame.

Discrimination Risk: There's a real concern that facial recognition data could be used to discriminate against recovering addicts, even unintentionally. This could make it harder for them to secure deliveries and maintain employment.

Broken Trust: If recovering addicts discover their facial recognition data was collected without consent, it can damage their already fragile trust in DoorDash and Uber, hindering their ability to work comfortably and maintain a sense of control.

We Demand Change:

For these reasons, we, the undersigned, demand immediate action from DoorDash and Uber:

End the Scans: Facial recognition technology for driver activation must be discontinued permanently.

Transparency Now: Both companies must be transparent about their data collection practices. They need to obtain informed consent from all drivers before implementing any biometric data collection.

Second Chances, Not Surveillance:

Delivery drivers in recovery deserve the chance to rebuild their lives with dignity and privacy. Facial recognition technology is a barrier, not a help. By signing this petition, we send a unified message: let recovering addicts work, not worry about being constantly scanned.

Sign and Share: Spread the word! The more signatures we have, the stronger our voice becomes.

Contact Support: Demand answers from DoorDash and Uber customer support. Let them know we will not stand for discrimination against recovering addicts.

Amplify on Social Media: Use #RecoveryNotScans #DriversPrivacy to raise awareness and ignite a conversation.

Together, we can create a work environment that supports, not hinders, the recovery journey. Let's ensure fair treatment and privacy for all delivery drivers, regardless of their past.
