The Issue

Artificial superintelligence — AI systems smarter than humans — may sound like science fiction. But leading scientists say it could become reality far sooner than most of us realize. And when it does, it may not be controllable.

That’s why over 800 experts — including Nobel Prize winners, former U.S. military leaders, AI researchers, and public figures like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — have signed a powerful statement calling for an immediate global ban on the development of artificial superintelligence.

We agree — and we demand action.

Superintelligent AI could one day outperform humans in everything from national defense to scientific research to decision-making. Without enforceable global guardrails, it could:

  • Disrupt economies and displace workers
  • Manipulate public opinion
  • Break through cybersecurity defenses
  • Accelerate the arms race between nations
  • Even threaten humanity’s long-term survival

Right now, the public has no say in this race. Companies like OpenAI, Meta, and xAI are building ever more powerful systems without a social contract, democratic approval, or proof of safety.

We call on the United Nations, U.S. Congress, and international governments to:

  • Ban the development of artificial superintelligence until global safety standards are established and publicly reviewed;
  • Convene an international summit to create a binding treaty for advanced AI — similar to existing treaties for nuclear and biological weapons;
  • Require transparency and democratic input before companies or governments are allowed to pursue human-replacing AI systems.

This is not a fringe issue. It’s not “just tech.” It’s about the future of civilization — and whether we get a say in it.

Sign this petition to stand with Nobel laureates, scientists, and military leaders calling for a global ban on AI superintelligence. This is our future — and we must protect it.
