Mandatory breath testing and a Workplace Code of Conduct for our Politicians

The issue

I was shocked to learn that those who have been elected in good faith, to make important decisions for our country, are offered free alcohol in their workplace on a daily basis. Alcohol that is paid for by our tax payer dollars. Alcohol that is consumed on a regular basis bath those inside Parliament. Alcohol that is influencing the important decisions that need to be made by those who have been elected to lead our country. Alcohol that has no doubt fuelled many of the horrendous sexual assaults and harassment’s that women have had to endure.
What’s more, there is no workplace code of conduct for those working in Parliament, how can this be? Any workplace needs to at least have a standard to which they expect their employees to uphold. If there is no workplace code of conduct, there is no standard. Without a workplace code of conduct, people are not held accountable when their conduct is below standard.

The decisions of this country should be made by people who not only uphold a certain standard on their workplace, but are also making important decisions without alcohol affecting their judgment.

I call for mandatory breath testing for those entering and leaving Parliament House, no more tax payer funded alcohol or any other alcohol for that matter inside Parliament House. I also call for a workplace code of conduct with an independent body that holds those accountable if workplace standards are not upheld.

This is the least we can expect of our elected Politicians and their staff members.
