Say No to Further Expansion of Tennis at Woods Park, Lincoln, Nebraska

Say No to Further Expansion of Tennis at Woods Park, Lincoln, Nebraska
The Issue
Let's Leave Room for Nature's Play!
Lincoln, Neb., residents in neighborhoods surrounding Woods Park (southwest corner of 33rd & O Streets) have come together to support the park and protect it from further encroachment of the Woods Tennis Center (WTC). Since WTC announced their desire to expand again in the summer of 2022 -- only five years since their previous expansion -- Woods Park: Keep it Green (WPKIG) has organized, held neighborhood meetings, testified before the Lincoln Parks & Rec Advisory Board, distributed materials throughout nearby neighborhoods, hosted events in the park, and initiated the designation of Woods Park as an official Nebraska arboretum.
Woods Park: Keep it Green now asks for your support. Sign our petition to ask the Lincoln Parks & Rec Advisory board to deny any formal amendment to the Woods Park Master Plan to allow for an expansion of the existing WTC. Additionally, your signature would also ask the Lincoln City Council to also deny any amendments to the same Master Plan should a vote come before the Council. These formal votes could take place in spring and summer 2024.
(The WTC proposal would expand the existing "footprint" from two enclosed structures with 6 indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts to three enclosed structures with 10 indoor courts and 15 outdoor courts. In addition, parking lots would be shifted and reconstructed to the south along J Street. WPKIG believes that this will mean the loss of green space in the park, the destruction of many mature trees, increase traffic congestion in the park and neighborhoods, and further erode the meaning of Woods Park as Lincoln's "Central Park.")
