EV Chargers have a place,

but NOT in Los Altos Parks or on Historic Landmarks

We don’t put gas stations in parks, 

and we shouldn’t put charging stations there either. 

WHY NOT?

• Commercializes parks: Neighborhood parks are for play
• Reduces much needed parking: Los Altos parks have limited parking that already results in neighborhood overflow
• Increases infrastructure and maintenance costs
• Incompatible with park hours and loitering laws; requires increased surveillance
• Adds unsightly signage, cables, bollards, cones and trash
• Los Altos has over 200 public EV chargers and 42 TESLA chargers, and most EV and PEV owners charge at home (83%)
• Increases fire hazard
• EV chargers make more sense in commercial zones, not parks

Los Altos need a clear, publicly-vetted EV Charger policy. For now, say NO to EV chargers in parks.
