Save Van Cortlandt Park Stadium! REPAIR IT, DON'T DEMOLISH IT
The Issue
Sign this petition to demand NYC Parks pause demolition and fully explore every path to preserve Van Cortlandt Park Stadium for public use.
Van Cortlandt Park Stadium is more than concrete bleachers, old turf, and a track—it is a historic Bronx landmark, a community gathering place, and one of the few accessible public spaces where generations of New Yorkers have come to move, train, compete, and simply be active.
For generations since 1937, Bronx youth, runners, walkers, public school athletes, families, elders, and everyday community members have relied on this space to move, gather, compete, and care for their health. In a city where access to safe, quality public recreational space is already deeply unequal, Van Cortlandt Park Stadium has been a lifeline.
And now we’re being told it’s beyond repair. And we're being told in a newsletter.
After decades of neglect, NYC Parks says demolition is the only option.
But communities like ours have seen this story before: public resources are allowed to deteriorate, investment is delayed, and then the very people who relied on those spaces are told there is no other choice but to lose them.
We reject that.
The Bronx deserves investment-NOT abandonment- in our public infrastructure.
We deserve transparency. We deserve accountability. And we deserve a real exploration of every possible pathway to preserve this historic public space and maintain it as a place for movement, exercise, sport, and community.
This is bigger than one stadium.
This is about ensuring access to public health resources, ensuring access to safe places to play, and ensuring our community is invested into, not torn down.
Van Cortlandt Park Stadium has served this community since 1937. If safety concerns are real, then the answer must be reinvestment and preservation—not the permanent removal of a critical community asset without meaningful public accountability.
Public spaces belong to the people.
And we intend to fight for this one.
