Vanessa L. Gibson is an African-American politician serving as the Borough President of The Bronx since January 2022. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, she made history as the first female and first African American to hold this position. Prior to her current role, Gibson was a member of the New York City Council, representing the 16th district from 2014 to 2021. Her political career also includes serving as a member of the New York State Assembly. Elected as Bronx Borough President in November 2021, Gibson ran on a platform emphasizing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing food insecurity, and tackling housing instability. She continues to be a prominent advocate for her community, focusing on progressive solutions to local challenges.
