The Issue

Emery Lynn Mizell, a beloved daughter, niece, sister, and cousin, was tragically taken from us at the tender age of 17. She became a victim of a senseless crime, stabbed by a 15-year-old girl last May; who showed no remorse in court. This occurred amidst an increasing number of unnoticed murders happening in the Bronx. Emery's story is personal, and we aim to make it an example for our youth.

Social media played a significant role in Emery's case, underscoring its powerful impact on today's youth. It's become clear that more attention needs to be paid to the influence and potential implications it has on our children. We aim to bring this issue to the forefront of public discussion in tribute to Emery's memory.

The defense attorney has put in an application for bail and this has outraged my family. This girl took our baby’s life and now they are asking for bail? The act itself was so public, this girl has shown no remorse and laughs every time she is seen in front of the judge. It’s so unfair to even entertain the thought of her being granted bail at all. It is for this reason that we urge the court to deny bail to the offender. Such a decision would affirm that this heinous act is inexcusably wrong and serve as a stern example that our justice system takes youth violence seriously. Many young people are committing crimes under the guise that they won’t do too much time due to their age thinking they’ll be out in no time. With no regard for the families that are impacted by their actions. Unfortunately our legal system has proven to be unjust in many areas, when it comes to youth crime. This mindset alone begs the question, are we giving young people the green light to run a muck and terrorize our neighborhoods? A decision is expected to be made February 18, 2025.

Voting in favor of this petition would also provide some semblance of comfort to Emery's grieving family, who explicitly asked that no bail be granted. Together, let's demand justice for Emery and create a safer environment for our kids by endorsing consequences for such severe actions. Add your voice to this cause by signing this petition.

Please let’s sign and share in support of this petition in anyway possible, to bring as much awareness as we can. I hope that this petition helps not only our family but others as well. Thank you all in advance for opening your hearts and supporting us in our time of need.
