The Issue

As a whistleblower who bravely confronted and exposed corruption within the New York Police Department, I faced unjust retaliation in the form of losing my 18-year pension. Upholding the values of justice, transparency, and accountability were at the core of my service. Yet, when I decided to speak out against the wrongs I witnessed, I was met with punitive actions that stripped me of my rightful pension.

Being on the inside allowed me to understand and expose the intricacies of malfeasance that often go unnoticed. This decision to disclose vital information wasn't just a personal act but a duty to uphold the public trust. However, the system that claims to protect its personnel turned its back on me.

Statistics indicate that whistleblowers frequently face retaliation in various forms, including unemployment and financial hardship, despite their critical role in maintaining integrity within institutions. The National Whistleblower Center highlights that 37% of whistleblowers face occupational detriments similar to mine. Losing my pension not only jeopardizes my livelihood but also sends a chilling message to current and future whistleblowers, deterring them from coming forward.

The New York Police Department and its pension fund need to address this gross injustice. Restoring my pension would rectify this misstep and ensure that the principles of truth and justice are truly upheld, encouraging others to stand up against corruption without fear of retribution.

I urge the Mayor of New York City, the Commissioner of the NYPD, and the trustees of the pension fund to take immediate action. Restoring my pension will not just serve justice for me, but also reaffirm to the city that its protectors remain committed to ethics and accountability.

Your support in signing this petition will not only aid in restoring my pension but also emphasize the indispensability of whistleblowers in creating a fair and accountable society. Together, we can insist on a systemic change that both protects and honors those who have the courage to stand against corruption. Let’s show that integrity is valued and that justice can prevail.
