Renovate Brighton playground
The Issue
For nearly 30 years, the Brighton playground, a cherished community space, has been neglected in terms of maintenance and safety improvements. As a result, our children are exposed to numerous hazards. Recently, kids have been falling on the concrete surface, drenched by slippery swampy puddles from the broken fountain, playing together in unsafe conditions on swing area, sharing the same resin space for soccer play. The screen torn apart metal breaking off the green zone. Our playground, which should be a safe haven, has become a danger zone for our children, a source of concern for parents, and a space that barely meets the needs of our community.
Urgent action is necessary. We are calling for comprehensive renovations and safety enhancements to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and supportive environment for everyone. This includes conducting immediate maintenance repairs, renovating the park with modern features, and scheduling essential upgrades to start in October 2026 and be completed by early spring 2027.
Firstly, secure fencing, timely closing entrance gates is paramount to ensure all-around safety for our kids, preventing them from wandering into potentially dangerous areas. Next, we propose the installation of a kid-safe resin floor that replaces the dangerous concrete to cushion falls and prevent injuries. Furthermore, to accommodate all ages, neurodivergent kids, we need redesigned areas to cater specifically to different age and neurodivergent groups, ensuring age-appropriate play and reducing the risk of injuries. A mini-football pitch will offer focused activities, reducing overcrowding, while adults, elderly without children should have designated areas to relax without imposing on family zones.
We also emphasize the necessity of clean and functional water fountains throughout the playground. Accessible drinking facilities are critical to promote hydration and prevent health issues during play.
By committing to these specific improvements, we can ensure a brighter and safer future for the Brighton playground, ultimately enriching the quality of life in our community. Join us in this cause; sign the petition to show that Brighton’s children and families deserve nothing less than a safe and inviting recreational space.
