Reduce Noise Pollution and Restore Peace in Phil Rizzuto Park

The Issue

For over half a century, the neighborhood around Phil Rizzuto Park (also known as Smokey Park) on 126 has been more than just buildings and roads to me; it has been my home, my heart. I have watched my children grow up here, running and laughing in the park, and now my grandchildren follow in their footsteps. We were a tight-knit community, built on a foundation of mutual respect. Celebrations echoed with joy, but serenity had its space too. Nowadays, our once-peaceful nights are disrupted by the cacophony of blaring music and raucous crowds that invade our park after big events, parades, and ball games. This noise not just disturbs the elderly and the working class in our neighborhood who need peace after a long day but also robs children of their space to play and enjoy freely.

This park has faced significant issues like being overcrowded due to inadequate accommodation, illegal parking on sidewalks, and the intrusive noise from gigantic stadium sound systems. Despite numerous complaints lodged, no significant actions have been taken making it difficult for local residents to enjoy the tranquility that once defined our neighborhood.

This is not to say we are against festivities or celebrations. We are only asking for a balance between festivities and peace. This delicate balance can be achieved by moving these large gatherings to a more suited, larger location, and by putting limits on after-hour sound systems use. It is an essential step in preserving the peace and harmony of the residential neighborhood.

Let's stand together and restore Phil Rizzuto Park to its original tranquil state. Our neighborhood has always been a home for all of us and it's time we retain its essence. Surely, we can achieve a balance between our love for celebrations and the peace we so dearly miss. Join us in making our voice heard.
