Protect Prospective Citizens in Indianapolis Who Were Denied Naturalization Rights

The Issue

On December 9, 2025, at Union Station in Indianapolis, 38 immigrants arrived at what should have been the proudest moment of their lives—ready to take the oath of U.S. citizenship. They had done everything right. They passed the tests, waited years, followed every rule, and showed up with their families to be welcomed as fellow Americans. Instead, they were turned away at the door.

According to officials on-site, these 38 individuals were told—many with no prior notice—that their oaths had been canceled. Why? Because a sudden federal directive barred people from 19 countries, mostly in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, from completing their naturalization. The same directive halted all pending applications and asylum claims from these countries, citing “high risk” status under new Trump administration policies.

People who were promised a seat at the American table were publicly shut out—humiliated, scared, and now facing uncertain futures. No one knows if they’ll be deported. No one has guaranteed that their oaths will be rescheduled. And so far, federal agencies have refused to answer for this injustice.

We cannot let this stand.

We demand that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) immediately reinstate the naturalization oaths for the 38 individuals turned away in Indianapolis and commit to protecting them from deportation

To Indiana’s congressional delegation and the representatives serving Marion County—we ask you to speak up and take immediate action. Push for oversight. Demand accountability. These are your constituents, too.

Sign this petition to demand justice, dignity, and citizenship for those who earned it.
