The Issue

The Arches, a cornerstone of Glasgow's cultural and music landscape, is facing imminent closure to make way for a commercial 10-pin bowling company. This iconic venue, which has played host to legendary DJs and artists, is not just a building but a vibrant symbol of Glasgow's rich musical heritage. Found under the Central Station's echoing arches, the venue is renowned for its commitment to fostering the electronic music scene and offering a platform for avant-garde performances, experimental theatre, and immersive art experiences.

Losing The Arches would mean losing an integral part of Glasgow’s identity. The venue has been instrumental in elevating the city’s status on the international music map, providing a space for local and global artists to connect and collaborate. For decades, it has been at the forefront of music innovation, inspiring countless musicians and fans alike.

Replacing this cultural hub with a corporate bowling alley would not only erode the city’s artistic fabric but would also deprive future generations of a unique and inspiring space for creativity and expression. While bowling alleys provide entertainment, they simply cannot replace the cultural significance and the community spirit that The Arches embodies.

There are more suitable locations for commercial businesses that do not require the destruction of such a valuable cultural landmark. We are asking the Glasgow City Council to intervene and protect this establishment from being transformed into yet another generic entertainment facility.

By signing this petition, you are taking a stand to preserve The Arches as a beacon of creativity, culture, and community in Glasgow. Stand with us to ensure this venue continues to cultivate the rich music and arts scene that defines our beloved city. Every signature sends a powerful message that our cultural integrity is not for sale.
