I feel that the time frame that is given to a person who commits a crime such as rape of child is not enough. It is sad that a child can be raped and killed and the person who did it only gets maybe a 15 to 25 year sentence and most of the time released early or never serving any jail time sometimes their just given probation. However, first time drug offenders and non violent offenders for example are receiving life sentences and longer prison terms than a person who commits such a horrific act on an innocent child which in most cases ends in death for the child. As a person who has been a victim of rape and a survivor this makes me so angry because these crimes are not receiving the punishment they deserve. The psychological and physical damage done to these children are devastating and can lead to lifetime long term mental health issues. The children who are murdered or die as a result of their injuries caused from the rape affects the families mentally and they are left emotionally scarred for the rest of their lives. So they are serving a life sentences from the loss of their loved one. I am asking and pleading that our President and U.S. Congress revisits these sentencing laws all across America. I do understand each state has their own laws however this change needs to take place in all states across the US and the world. I do believe with more stricter laws and longer sentencing terms it will encourage more victims of rape to come forward and not feel as if nothing will be done about it. I am hoping with this change it will lower crimes of rape, abuse and murder against children and the suicide rates in our children will be lower as well. I am asking for CHANGE!
