Pass Cam’s Law: Federal Protections Against Child Exploitation on Social Media

Pass Cam’s Law: Federal Protections Against Child Exploitation on Social Media
The Issue
Children are not content.
Across social media platforms, children are increasingly being exposed online for clicks, views, donations, subscriptions, and profit.
In many cases, minors are featured in emotionally vulnerable, humiliating, medically sensitive, or highly controversial content designed to generate engagement and public outrage. Many of these children are too young to meaningfully consent to having their lives permanently broadcast to millions of strangers online.
As social media monetization grows, federal protections for children have failed to keep pace.
That is why we are calling for the creation and passage of Cam’s Law, a proposed federal child digital protection law designed to safeguard minors from exploitative monetized online content.
Cam’s Law seeks to:
Protect children from being used as “rage bait” or outrage-driven content for financial gain.
Prevent the monetized exploitation of a child’s emotional distress, humiliation, or vulnerable moments.
Protect the privacy of minors, including medical information, diagnoses, therapies, educational records, and sensitive personal content. Create financial safeguards for children featured in monetized online content.
Establish accountability standards for social media platforms hosting exploitative child centered content.
Give children future rights over harmful digital content posted about them online.
This movement is not about attacking one family, one creator, or one child.
This movement is about protecting ALL children from becoming profit driven internet spectacle in an era where outrage and engagement are monetized at unprecedented levels.
Children deserve dignity, privacy, emotional protection, and the right to grow up without their most vulnerable moments becoming permanent online entertainment.
We urge Congress and federal agencies to begin drafting and supporting nationwide child digital protection legislation.
Protect children, not profits.
