No Food, No Medicine, No Dignity: Fix ICE Detention Centers Conditions Now
The Issue
People in ICE custody are sleeping on cold stone floors, going days without proper meals, and suffering from serious untreated illnesses.
Some are so hungry they say they are “starving.” Others are sick and denied basic medical care.
Krome Detention Center in Miami and Glades Detention Center in Moore Haven are overcrowded, unsanitary, and dangerous. Detainees report being crammed into small rooms for days, with no beds, no food, and no dignity.
At least three people have died in ICE custody in Florida this year alone.
Nationwide, nine people have already died in 2025, making this potentially the deadliest year since 2020.
These conditions are a humanitarian crisis. They violate basic human rights and bring shame to our immigration system. No one, regardless of status, should be treated like this.
We call on ICE, Florida officials, and the federal government to:
- Provide immediate medical care, food, and safe sleeping conditions to all detainees
- Investigate all reports of abuse and neglect at Krome, Glades, and other centers
- End overcrowding and stop holding people in inhumane conditions
- Release detainees who are not a flight or safety risk, especially those with medical issues
People are suffering. Families are pleading for help. We demand urgent action before more lives are lost.
