Indented Head School Bus Safety

Indented Head School Bus Safety
The issue
Parents at the Indented Head post office stop have raised concerns with McHarry’s Buslines and Public Transport Victoria (PTV) about the safety of the afternoon service, and the traffic-danger children face in crossing the road from the eastern side of The Esplanade (Bay side).
The issue stems from a combination of:
1) a small stop with low visibility from the north and no access to footpaths,
2) a large number of children departing at this stop (approximately 20-25), and
3) kids being kids and trying to cross the road unsafely (e.g. before the bus leaves, between passing traffic)
We have requested that the afternoon bus service be reversed, so both morning and afternoon bus services run counter-clockwise from St Leonards, through Indented Head and then on to Portarlington. There would be no need to change the route; both morning and afternoon routes would be identical.
This change offers an immediate, effective and free solution to the child safety problem, ensuring dozens of children can get off the SI1 safely.
McHarry’s and PTV have repeatedly refused
To see their rationale, as well as our response, please look at our website. There you’ll also find more information, background, as well as photos and videos of the stop in use so that you can decide for yourself.

There have been too many near-misses, with traffic weaving in and out of the children daily. The situation is an accident waiting to happen with not only the younger St Thomas children but the St Ignatius teenagers at risk as well when there is no adult to slow the traffic.
Please sign our petition to McHarry's Buslines and Public Transport Victoria, asking that they reverse the afternoon SI1 schoolbus.
