My daughter was a good driver, a college graduate, Disney cast member and had a profound love for children. Unfortunately, her life was abruptly cut short on March 5, 2025, due to a fatal accident on Route 17 NY. The same fate was met by another gentleman involved in the incident, though luckily, his child was saved because of the quick response from those on the scene. My daughter was not under the influence; poor road conditions and inadequately marked signs led to her driving the wrong way.

Regrettably, this is not an isolated case. Over the last few years, there have been several traffic fatalities along Route 17 NY, many attributed to the poor condition of the road and insufficient road signs. It is chilling to realize that these tragedies could have been prevented with the implementation of precise signs lit up with solar lights and the rectification of the road conditions.

The pain of losing a loved one is unbearable, and it is even more heart-wrenching knowing it could have been prevented. Our agitation is raised further upon seeing the recurrent accidents on this very road, endangering the lives of many more innocents.

Therefore, we call on local and state authorities to prioritize updating the safety measures on Route 17 NY. This includes ensuring the roads are well maintained, installing clearly marked signs that are illuminated with solar lights, and adding additional signs where necessary. By taking these actions, we believe many lives can be spared, and the tragedy that befell my daughter and many others can be avoided.
