Implement Safety Measures in Full-Service Hotels to Protect Employees and Guests
The Issue
I am writing this petition to address a critical issue that affects the safety and well-being of both employees and guests in full-service hotels. This cause is deeply personal to me, as I have experienced firsthand the devastating consequences of workplace violence.
Less than 90 days ago, I was assaulted by a homeless person while working at a full-service hotel. The incident left me traumatized and fearful for my safety. Shockingly, just a few weeks later, I was again subjected to physical assault by an employee within the same establishment just sitting in my office. These incidents highlight the urgent need for comprehensive security measures and standardized operating procedures across all full-service hotels.
Workplace violence is an alarming problem that affects numerous industries, including hospitality. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were approximately 29,000 reported cases of workplace violence in 2019 alone. This statistic only accounts for reported incidents, suggesting that the actual number may be much higher.
Full-service hotels are unique environments where employees interact with diverse individuals on a daily basis. While most guests are respectful and kind-hearted individuals seeking relaxation or business opportunities, there is always a risk of encountering those who may pose threats or engage in violent behavior due to various factors such as mental health issues or criminal intent.
To ensure the safety of both employees and guests within full-service hotels, it is crucial for these establishments to implement robust security measures and develop standardized operating procedures specifically designed to prevent workplace violence.
By requiring trained security personnel on-site at all times, full-service hotels can significantly reduce the risk of violent incidents occurring within their premises. Trained security professionals can effectively monitor entrances/exits, patrol public areas frequently, conduct bag checks when necessary (with proper consent), and promptly respond to any suspicious activities or potential threats.
Furthermore, developing comprehensive standard operating procedures focused on preventing workplace violence is essential. These procedures should include guidelines for identifying and reporting potential threats, training employees in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques, establishing emergency response protocols, and implementing effective communication systems to ensure swift action during critical situations.
Implementing these safety measures will not only protect the well-being of employees but also enhance the overall guest experience. Guests deserve to feel secure and confident when staying at full-service hotels, knowing that their safety is a top priority.
I urge all full-service hotels to take immediate action by implementing security measures that prioritize employee and guest safety. By doing so, we can create a safer environment for everyone involved in the hospitality industry.
Together, let us make full-service hotels a sanctuary where both employees and guests can thrive without fear of violence or harm. Sign this petition today to demand change!
