WeAreNOTlesserGhanaians,PayUsAllOur Money just as U did for Depositors of Collapsed Banks!
The Issue
At the beginning of the clean up exercise, the bankers affirmed to us that no depositor's money will be lost. And that was the case with all the banks that were closed down. This was achieved through several measures by government including consolidation and raising of bonds. On the 16th August 2019, 23 saving and loans companies were closed down and depositors were hopeful that just as BOG and Government treated the depositors of the banks, they will also be treated as such. Receiver was appointed and has started the validation process and on the 8th Nov, he released a statement through his spokesperson that He will pay up to a cap of 20,000cedis to the amazement of poor innocent depositors some of which weren't getting any significant interest on their current accounts if any. There was no law that stated that Ghanaians shouldn't put more than 20K in Savings and Loans, so there is absolutely no reason why we should be capped. Why should a millitary man who has risked his life in peacekeeping missions and war zones and has about 500,000 cedis in a Savings and Loans company duly licenced by the BOG meaning he has done due diligence before depositing the money, be paid only 20K? Why are we being treated any differently? We are not lesser Ghanaians than those who deposited with the banks, and we must be treated fairly and justly. The Government, BOG and Receiver of the collapsed banks didn't recover from these institutions before making totality of funds available to all depositors of the banks. Why should it be that in our case, government wants receiver to recover before there could be any further payment? Is it that, it's because a lot of people who deposited money with the savings and loans companies are of the informal sector that is why government is treating them this way? That will be pure injustice, We stand to be the voice of the voiceless. What prevents the government from Consolidating all our accounts into a state owned Savings and Loans or move all our accounts to either Consolidated Bank of Ghana- CBG or Ghana Commercial Bank- GCB? Wouldn't that go a long way to increase the customer base of these banks and therefore making them stronger state-owned banks? Why should depositors that are paid at CBG, be asked to fill a form to close down the account through which they got paid by the Receiver. Is the BOG not interested in more people patronizing CBG?
We are of the full conviction that bonds could be raised in our case too, money from the $30 million world bank facility for Financial Sector Development Programme, could be used to PAY ALL DEPOSITORS IN FULL and this WITHIN 6 MONTHS, whiles Government sets up institutions that will work with EOCO and receiver to recover money that has gone unaccounted for by the CEOs and Managers of these Savings and Loans. This will go a long way in strengthening the financial system and boosting Ghanaians' especially the informal sector confidence in Savings and Loans. The informal sector is a strong financial force in this country and shouldn't be treated unjustly please. Our monies haven't mysteriously vanished from the coffers of these institutions, the owners and managers used it to acquire mighty assets and made investments, some of which as receiver rightly said weren't registered in the companies names. We believe with deep investigations and enough pressure applied on the CEOs and Managers, they will cough out most of the monies in addition to the gradual loan recovery from those who took loans.
WE AFFECTED DEPOSITORS, WANT FULL ACCESS TO ALL OUR FUNDS IN ALL OUR ACCOUNTS AND THIS ASAP AND BEFORE 30/06/20 AS THE HARDNESS ON US, OUR FAMILIES AND BUSINESSES IS BECOMING UNBEARABLE.
*#PLEASE PAY US NOW, WE ARE NOT A NEGLIGIBLE MINORITY, DEPOSITORS AFFECTED ARE MORE THAN 30% OF THE VOTERS POPULATION, NOT COUNTING THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AND ALL THE PEOPLE RELATED TO THE DEPOSITORS*
