Sharing reporting processes for sexual assault in QLD schools.

The issue

In schools, there is a lack of clarity and information regarding the reporting processes for instances of sexual assault (SA). Often, students have no idea how the process works, sometimes even after having reported things themselves. This lack of clarity and understanding of their own rights when reporting makes it difficult for students to report SA. To address this, we must inform students (at least in grades 10-12) of these processes and their rights on a wide-scale in QLD schools; this could be on assemblies, for example. This information must be conveyed clearly, accurately, and accessibly for students and their parents/guardians.

Required information to be shared:

- how the reporting process works

- staff members' duty of care and legal requirement to report

- victim anonymity

- the need for students to go to QPS directly if they wish for claims to be investigated

We encourage you to share this petition with other students, and to email your principals or school administration members to advocate for this cause directly.

Thank you, from SASA (Students Against Sexual Assault - a QLD-based group advocating for students' voices in conversations regarding SA).
