Chinhoyi University of Technology_ #FeesMustFall2021
The Issue
Chinhoyi University of Technology must take into consideration the financial struggles and educational impairments students are facing, and make a reduction in tuition fees.
As Chinhoyi University of Technology students, we voice our concern about tuition fees of USD 495 (School of Sciences), and USD 470 (School of Humanities) per semester which are too high particularly due to lockdown, a significant number of our guardians are facing loss of shifts, or even unemployment. Of the few employed, they are earning just peanuts. Many students, rely heavily on income from parents to afford their living costs and tuition fees.
Online delivery of education have and will greatly impact our learning experience. The quality of education is not up to the standard we expect for such high cost of tuition fees due to many reasons including technical difficulties and lost clarity of communication a face-to-face learning provides. Students no longer have sufficient access to amenities and services available on campus as we will be on campus for only two weeks before an additional week for examinations.
Not to mention that the university is benefiting from reduced running costs of facilities from this change including electricity, water usage, and less maintenance just to name a few.
