Durham Region Residents against LOCKDOWN
The Issue
As of November 22nd, Durham Region, has a total of 419 active COVID cases.
- With an estimated population in Durham Region (2018) of 683,600 — This means active cases represent only 0.06% of Durham Region’s entire population.
Of those 419 active cases, there are 13 (THIRTEEN) hospitalized and only 1 (ONE) is in intensive care.
4,031 cases have been recorded in TOTAL for Durham Region since January of 2020; 0.59% of our population.
As of Monday, November 23rd, Durham Region will enter the “RED ZONE”. With neighbouring regions headed into full lockdown, we fear this may be on the horizon for us as well.
We have witnessed countless small businesses already forced to shut down permanently. While the rest have worked ever so hard to keep their head above water - finding creative ways to produce income as well as pouring hours and resources into their facilities to make them safe for their consumers. They’ve followed public health and unique industry guidelines; PPE, Screening, sanitizers, cleaning supplies, plexiglass barriers, reduced capacities, and have bent and shifted to comply with anything and everything the government has asked of them - to help protect and serve their community safely and responsibly.
Currently, community spread is only responsible for 26% of the 419 cases.
This data indicates that though we should stay vigilant, equipped with appropriate safety measures in place to keep the virus at a manageable level - another complete lockdown would be far more detrimental to our community than the actual virus itself.
We are humbly requesting our Premier, Doug Ford, to keep our small businesses open and to not impose further restrictions (lockdown) on our region.
