The Issue

A 24-year-old Venezuelan man Widmer Josneyder Agelviz Sanguino was legally admitted to the United States as a refugee.

Instead of safety, he was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, where he now sits imprisoned in a maximum-security facility — a known human rights risk.

A federal judge in Texas ordered the Trump administration Monday to facilitate contact between a Venezuelan man deported to El Salvador and his lawyers, giving the federal government until Wednesday afternoon.

That needs to happen as soon as possible.

This man remains locked away in a foreign prison, unable to contact legal counsel or exercise his rights under U.S. law. It is not only a humanitarian failure — it’s a violation of a U.S. court order.

We call on the U.S. Department of Justice to immediately comply with the federal court order and ensure this man has access to legal representation

Work with Salvadoran authorities and U.S. consular officials to secure his access to communication, safety, and due process.

Guarantee that no refugee is ever deported without a full legal review and the chance to be heard!

Refugee protection is the law. Court orders are binding. This man deserves his day in court — and the lawyer he’s legally entitled to.
