In the heart of Schoharie County, New York, my life has been deeply affected by a baffling tragedy. Along a lonely byway, five beloved neighbors have died of cancer, yet there's been no investigation to understand the potential causes behind their deaths. This silence from officials is not only troubling but dangerous for our community. Our children, our families, and our future deserve answers.

Residents in rural areas are often at a disproportionate risk of dying from cancer compared to NY cities, sometimes due to systemic deficiencies or lack of routine health care according to research.  Rural communities like ours are at a startling disadvantage when it comes to healthcare and disease monitoring. Yet, here in Schoharie County, the local Government seems indifferent, refusing to acknowledge or address these looming threats.

The Schoharie County Supervisors, through its Department of Health, has a duty to its residents to track and investigate diseases, especially cancer, which has devastating effects on families. Alarmingly, the Department of Health has implemented policies that are not only illegal but also ignore warning signs, particularly when it comes to children missing routine check-ups and essential medical care. This neglect is unacceptable and calls for immediate action.

We demand transparency and accountability from your local Department of Health. The policies should be overhauled immediately to ensure thorough tracking of cancer cases, especially in vulnerable populations. They must start thorough investigations to find likely cancer clusters and put preventive measures in place.
