Demand Fair Pay, Professional Recognition, and Career Advancement for NYC Health + Hospita
The Issue
The Issue
We, the Registered Pharmacy Technicians of NYC Health + Hospitals, are dedicated healthcare professionals and proud members of DC37 Local 420. Every day, we play a vital role in delivering safe, accurate, and timely medication services throughout New York City's public hospitals. We support emergency departments, intensive care units, inpatient and outpatient pharmacies, operating rooms, specialty clinics, and countless other areas that depend on our expertise to ensure patients receive the medications they need.
Our work extends far beyond medication distribution. As New York State Licensed Registered Pharmacy Technicians, many of us also hold nationally recognized certifications and perform highly specialized responsibilities that directly contribute to patient safety, regulatory compliance, and the efficient operation of one of the nation's largest public healthcare systems.
Despite our essential contributions, our professional title remains inadequately recognized within our union contract, and our compensation does not reflect the education, licensure, responsibility, and expertise our positions require. As our duties continue to expand and the cost of living in New York City rises, the gap between our responsibilities and our wages continues to grow.
We are calling on NYC Health + Hospitals and DC37 leadership to take immediate action by:
Officially recognizing the NYS Licensed Registered Pharmacy Technician title within the union contract.
Establishing fair, competitive salaries that reflect our professional qualifications, specialized skills, and essential contributions to patient care.
Providing retroactive wage adjustments beginning from the date employees obtained their New York State Registered Pharmacy Technician licensure.
Creating a structured career ladder with advancement opportunities, including Technician I, Technician II, Technician III, Senior/Lead Pharmacy Technician, and additional promotional pathways.
Implementing longevity pay at meaningful service milestones, including 3, 5, 10, and 15 years, to recognize commitment and retain experienced professionals.
Fair compensation is more than an employment issue—it is a patient care issue. Research consistently shows that competitive wages improve recruitment, retention, job satisfaction, and workforce stability. Investing in Registered Pharmacy Technicians strengthens medication safety, reduces turnover, preserves institutional knowledge, and ensures uninterrupted pharmaceutical care for the patients who depend on NYC Health + Hospitals every day.
Our request is simple: recognize our profession, value our expertise, and compensate us fairly for the indispensable work we perform.
Together, we can build a stronger public healthcare system that values both its patients and the healthcare professionals who serve them.
Please sign this petition to support fair pay, professional title recognition, career advancement, and equitable treatment for Registered Pharmacy Technicians at NYC Health + Hospitals. Your support will help create lasting change for the workforce that helps keep New York City's public hospitals running safely every day.
