Growing up in Philadelphia, PA, I've seen firsthand the passion and dedication of our community's young mountain bikers. Every school boasts a mountain bike team, yet frustratingly, there's no dedicated place for these young enthusiasts to practice and hone their skills for competition. Our current trail systems are overcrowded, creating not only a safety hazard but also limiting the potential for skill development. We owe it to our youth to offer better resources and opportunities.

Mountain biking isn’t just a sport; it’s a lifeline. It gives kids an alternative to the often tumultuous street life they encounter in the city. It teaches them discipline, teamwork, and offers them a path to a different way of life. Providing a dedicated bike park isn't just an investment in recreation; it's an investment in our community's future.

Other cities have already embraced the need for bike parks and have seen the positive outcomes in youth engagement and community building. For instance, Bentonville, Arkansas transformed a section of their city into a biking paradise, vastly enhancing local tourism and young people's quality of life.

Philadelphia has the space and the need. A bike park in Wister Woods next to La Salle University and numerous grade/high schools would provide our young athletes with the essential facilities they require to train safely and extensively. Imagine a state-of-the-art park where all ages can come together, fostering a healthier, more active lifestyle while promoting unity within our community.  A full assesment has been completed by Gravity Logic, the leader in bike park development, and they approve of the location 100%.

A 5 mile network of hiking trails will also be carefully included to offer more family friendly outdoor recreational opportunites, connect the community, and honor the original vision of John Wister 100 years ago.

Moreover, such a project could energize local businesses and create economic opportunities. Bike shops, cafes, and sporting events could thrive around this new hub of activity.

We call upon the local government, stakeholders, and sponsors to prioritize the construction of a bike park in Philadelphia. Let's give our young mountain bikers the platform they need to dream big and achieve their goals, while also ensuring that our city reaps the numerous benefits this project stands to bring.
