Remove Auckland's bed tax on accommodation providers.

New Zealand's tourism sector is hurting, and needs some relief. The accommodation provider targeted rate is an extra rates levy placed on Accommodation providers by Auckland City Council. The money raised is supposed to pay for advertising and events to bring tourists to Auckland.

While the council has provided some relief the accommodation industry has been brought to its knees. 2021 was supposed to be a huge year with the America's Cup, and APEC being a huge boom for the industry. Many hotels have made large capital investments in anticipation of this.

Our hotels and motels need a break and some time to recover financially from the damage Covid has done to their balance sheets. They already have to pay the same rates as every other business. The APTR is an unjust additional tax that targets a struggling industry while it's down.
