The Issue

I'm starting this petition to shed light on an issue that has deeply impacted my life and the lives of many other fathers. In 2023, I discovered that my daughter Charley had been given up for adoption without my knowledge 16 years prior, and the laws governing fathers' rights, registries, and their onerous, manipulative, profit-protecting procedures had terminated my parental rights very easily. The current system's leniency is highly unjust and outdated, favoring bureaucracy and profit over the welfare of kids and families.

Father registries were deceivingly designed with false intentions of ensuring fathers are acknowledged and notified regarding matters affecting their children. However, these registries became punitive rather than protective. *i.e., they allow 30 days to unwed fathers to be told and fight for their child. Total nonsense.

Foster care systems and adoption systems are highly subsidized, and these laws are being designed and kept in place to favor currency over kids. How many men are even aware of these registries or understand them? I'll guesstimate 98% who read this have no clue they even exist, by design (in approx 33 states now). Utah, for example, has zero rights for unwed fathers, the worst state in the nation for this deceitful system.

Moreover, the method of publishing notices in newspapers is antiquated and ineffective. This was first noted in a court case in 1877! We no longer rely on newspapers (digital or physical) for crucial information. Publication by Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram would seem frivolous yet far more effective today. Laws also allow publication in states other than the father's actual known location, again by design (this was my story).

Let's advocate for a fairer, more efficient system that protects the rights of all parents and prioritizes the well-being of children, not wallets or personal motives. We need to eliminate ALL putative registries and move toward internet/app/smartphone-type notices (i.e., a court-controlled alert system you can voluntarily enable like amber alerts), ensuring both parents are adequately informed and have an equal opportunity to assert their rights. Women need no registry simply because they carry, yet men do. Shameful tactics disguised as protective. They fool absolutely no one.

Sign in support of the elimination of these registries and ancient publications by paper. We must demand change to protect all parental rights and family integrity!
