Mark Edward Kelly is an American politician, retired astronaut, and United States Navy captain, born in 1964. A member of the Democratic Party, Kelly has served as the junior U.S. Senator from Arizona since 2020, securing reelection for a full term in 2022. Kelly's distinguished career includes roles as a naval officer, astronaut, test pilot, and writer. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering and Nautical Science from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a Master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. In his military career, Kelly served as a Naval Aviator. As an astronaut at NASA, he contributed significantly to the U.S. space program, further enhancing his profile as a dedicated public servant and leader.
