Abolish the Proposed Mileage Tax in California

The Issue

As a resident of California, I am deeply impacted by the persistent tax hikes on our travel. We, the people of California, already shoulder the highest gasoline and vehicle taxes in the country, a burden that is becoming increasingly difficult to bear. The proposed mileage tax is another addition to this increasing load, tipping the scales of fiscal responsibility further away from balance.

According to the American Petroleum Institute, Californians pay the highest total state gasoline taxes, surpassing 50.5 cents per gallon, as of July, 2021. This is disproportionate and, for many, unmanageable. The cause of our transportation system should be supported by a proper allocation of the existing funds and not by burdening the taxpayers with excessive demands. Our plea is not to shirk our responsibilities but to seek transparency and fairness in the management of collected funds.

California's gas tax revenue should be sufficient to uphold the state's travel infrastructure - we need not pay more. We appeal to decision-makers to ensure the appropriate use of the collected fuel tax and vehicle tax revenues. We stand against the misappropriation of these funds and demand accountability and transparency.

We, the residents of California, request a reconsideration of the proposed mileage tax and a pledge for more accountable management of our existing tax contributions. We urge our fellow citizens to join us in this call for tax fairness. Please, sign this petition to say no to the California mileage tax.
