Martine Aubry is a prominent French politician known for her influential role as the First Secretary of the French Socialist Party from 2008 to 2012. Born on August 8, 1950, in Paris, Aubry was instrumental in the implementation of the 35-hour workweek law during her tenure as Minister of Labour, Social Cohesion and Employment from 1997 to 2000. She has also served as the Mayor of Lille since 2001. Educated at France's prestigious National School of Administration (ENA), Aubry's career also includes a significant stint in the private sector as Deputy Director of the Peugeot group. She is the daughter of Jacques Delors, former French Minister for Economy and Finance and erstwhile President of the European Commission.
