The Salem-Keizer School District is using Yondr pouches as a "solution" and tackle the classroom disruptions when the underlying issue is the inability of the district to enforce any rules. The trouble lies not in phones, but in the district's failure to enforce rules. Those students who had violated cell phone policies in the past are still finding loopholes to get away from using the pouches while those students amenable to the rules are unjustly punished. Throwing so much money into a system that won't solve the problem is foolish. Instead of addressing the actions of individuals who have broken the rules, the policy treats the entire classroom as a problem, which creates frustration unhelpful both to teachers and students. Taking away cell phones could create safety problems. Anonymous reporting methods, aimed at reporting violent incidents or threats, are not available, and the students will also lose communication with their parents in terms of emotional support and welfare during the day. The whole hypocrisy of this policy is the fact that teachers are allowed to use cell phones while students are denied. It already incorporates radios, landline phones, and computers to communicate, so this double standard doesn't make sense. If the district truly wants to fix classroom disruptions, then they should focus on enforcing the rules that they have and holding those who break them accountable for their actions. Punishing everyone for the crimes of a few is never the answer.

Walking into school being forced to bring my phone lock it up into a pouch and walking through metal detectors is not making me feel safe I feel like a prisoner

Why should I support the implantation of Yonder pouches? My school has failed to provide communication during times of stress multiple times this school year alone. When previously in school year threats of school shooting were being circulated I expected my school to reassure me of my safety, but unfortunately that email would never be seen, but while I can understand not sending a school district wide emails on "rumors" to not stress student when later kids were detained while attempting the school during school hours it would take them until later that night, hours after school had already ended to confirm the suspicions of them possessing firearms and though this doesn't sound bad at face value when later that week a student was saw being detained at the attached Park and no email would come to fallow. And even to give them the benefit of a doubt later after the yonder pouches had been implemented I wanted to get checked out I used the office phone communicated with my parents and waited in the office, I was told nothing for over 45 minutes by the office staff right in front of me and it took me calling my parents again for me to be informed that they had already called to check me out, me either in eye or ear shot for over an hour now with me asking them multiple times if they heard anything it was only until they heard my mom talking to me over the phone that they asked me my name and finally gave me a release form and unlocked my Yonder Pouch, Gross.
