The Issue

You walk into the school, your ID and Yondr pouch in your hand. As you lock it, you cannot grab it to check the time, talk to parents, take photos of notes you missed, use it as a reference for art photos, and more. You start to head to your class. As you were absent yesterday, you missed notes. Before the Yondr pouches, you could just take a photo of the pages you need. But, it will take more time now because we can no longer do that.

What is this dystopian world we live in? A school where we can not check the time? Some of the clocks are busted, or they are too far up to see. Yondr pouches have been making so many people late. There are a lot of different issues, but they are all connected. The Yondr is the cause of all those problems.

It's just not smart to have these pouches, plus it is a safety hazard. In America, we have way too many school shootings to not be abloud to have our phones. Did you hear about that girl who wrote, “I love you Mom and Dad” on her arm during a recent school shooting because she couldn’t communicate with her parents but she wanted them to know she loved them. She ended up surviving, thankfully but that proves my point. Not only does it make us late, but it's a safety hazard too.

Those pouches have made it incredibly difficult to enter and exit the building. At lunch, as you exit the building, there are only a couple of magnets that unlock your pouch. The hallways barely move with everyone trying to unlock their pouches. And that's just the start of it. As you enter the building when you get back from lunch, lines are going out so far just so we can relock our pouches. Those lines make people late going into the building.

Freshmen aren’t allowed to go off campus. That happened to us last year, but the difference is that at least we had our phones since we couldn't go off campus. The freshmen this year don't have their phones. They can’t go anywhere and they can’t text anyone or watch TikTok or whatever they do. I find that bad too, I mean these pouches are just piling and piling problems, I know we have them because of our phone usage, but they could’ve gone about this a better way. I agree and a good amount of people agree.

If you oppose the yondr pouches in any way, please sign this. You can leave comments too on your opinion. If we got rid of these as a district, it would make school life so much easier for everyone. All it's doing is causing issues, more issue's not fixing a lot. So sign this petition to get rid of Yondr pouches as a district in D11. We could all sign this and get rid of those pouches, that's the goal at least. I feel like we should talk about solutions too.

Let's say we want them gone, but the district will probably not do that without a solution. I feel like we should go back to phone jails. I feel like we have two good options here. These options of what to do if we get rid of the pouches should help more people to be persuaded by it, especially teachers.

I feel like one effective way to regulate phones but not involve the Yondr pouches is to just keep them in your bag. If a teacher sees it, they give you a warning the first time. But, the second time you get your phone taken for the rest of the day. The third time should be like a call home And just have additional consequences thereafter.  I feel like that's reasonable. I mean, anything but Yondr.

I feel like if you have permission to take your phone out to check the time or look something up from a teacher, you would not get it taken, and it could be regulated. That sounds pretty rational.

The other option I have in mind is doing a phone jail. I had a teacher who assigned numbers to names and would like attendance to check it at the beginning of class. So that if an emergency ever happened like a school shooting or a family issue, you would at least be able to get to your phones.

Time to brainstorm our ideas as Doherty Spartans and as part of the D11 Community. Comment your ideas…. Be the voices of change and let your voices be heard!

But that's all I kinda have to say about Yondr.

Say NO LONGER TO YONDR!
