Coach Chiola has been an amazing asset to the Livonia Franklin Athletics Department for over 20 years now. He has made a massive impact on 1000’s of lives through the wrestling program that he has shaped into a force to reckon with. Many of the things that have shaped who I am, now, as an adult I can attribute to coach Chiola and my time on the team. His teachings transcend more than just your time in the mat, but are skills and lessons that stay with someone the rest of their life. Removing him from this position is a huge injustice to not only his past wrestlers, but the many still to come that won’t know the positive influence he would have on them. Coach Chiola is a life long mentor and friend and should be reinstated to this position so that these future students don’t miss out on what he has to offer.
Coach Chiola is made of 100% integrity and every student and athlete he churns out of his winning machine is better for knowing him. LPS needs to slow down and take a step back and realize that firing someone of this caliber without EXTREME reasons is dancing our students and student athletes as well as our community as a whole. LPS decision makers in this issue should be completely ashamed of their own actions. Overreacting in such a major way here screams politics and there’s no room for that in schools. Do what is best for the schools and beg this man to come back!!!!
I had Mr. Chiola for language arts in highschool. Although Language arts was never my strong suit in school, I did very well with A’s in Mr. Chiola’s class. He was a great teacher, and a good person. I can not believe Livonia Public Schools would do something as outrageous as this. As someone who is about to start a family, having a baby the summer of 2025 I could not imagine having someone of the opposite “sex” in the locker room with my child. Mr. Chiola did the absolute right thing in this situation, protecting those of the “sex” they were born without discriminating the wrestler in question. He was unlawfully fired and deserves his job back. Just because of hear say from students overhearing the phone call assumptions are made to result in him being fired. This is absurd.
Coach Chiola changed the way I think and live my life. He made me much more polite and humble. He also made me a much better wrestler. He changed so many life’s and he deserves better.
Coaches like AJ and Dash play a crucial role in the OC wrestling community! They’ve help advance a positive environment for the girls and healthy competitive spirit that will translate into their day to day lives. These are great coaches that do it for the love of the sport, and with compassion for their wrestlers. They are those positive role models, which is heavily needed in such a fast growing sport. You need coaches like them because it’s more than just wrestling.
I was coached my Coach AJ and Coach Dash my Junior and Senior year, they led me to become a CIF champion, 2x Masters Champion, and a 2x State placer. San Clemente High school has only had 2 female state placers and they were both under Coach AJ and Dash. They were not only there for me on the mat but they are there for me in life. They have done so much for this wrestling program. They pour their all into these kids.
Wrestling instilled a tremendous amount of confidence in me in such a short amount of time, and it should be an experience every woman beyond high school should have. This sport is something that should continue to grow, especially with the increasing number of girls joining and the ever so rising interest in it.
As a girl who grew up in a house where women were meant to be quiet and docile, I wasn't able to observe wrestling in action until high school. After that, it wasn't until my junior year when I finally gained the confidence to try it for myself. This sport has been revolutionary to my growth. I've gained an absurd amount of drive, passion, and confidence. The opportunity to continue my journey into college couple be exactly what I need to set me up for success in the future. I love this sport, and I don't want it to end after high school.
As a Maryland High School Wrestling Coach, I have seen the growth of Women's Wrestling in our ranks. It is only fitting that our largest state university become fearless in their leadership by providing a D1 program for our Young Women to aspire to be a part of. Stop letting our Young Women leave the state for opportunities that we can provide for them here at UMD!
