I believe that these practices are harmful to this already vulnerable and traumatized community. We are risking creating more resistance from people experience homelessness by increasing harassment by authority figures right as we are trying to build trust to bring them into our new MAC shelter. There are better trauma informed policy options that minimize the harm we are causing to our homeless neighbors while fostering trust. This is not the time to make the community the enemy in the eyes of our people experiencing homelessness.

You can’t try to uplift by creating more shelters and in the same breath create systems of harm. The reasons for being unhoused are not one sized fits all & should not be criminalized. When I left to go to school in Dallas, I saw firsthand how ineffective, wasteful, and harmful that city's policy of "sweeping" away homeless people around town was. If the goal is to help the city, to improve people's lives, sweeps are not the answer. All they do is waste money and time, spread mistrust and fear, and cause unnecessary conflict. Let's use this energy and attention on homelessness to do something that really benefits Wichita, not just follows in the steps of a failed experiment.

It took me a long time to finally get into a place of my own . Community support not negative actions kept me going so I would keep my job and stay positive, this ordinance will lead to negative actions all they way around, it all heads one way, angry people on both sides, divided community = more problems .

The idea of the MAC is to bring in supports, such as case managers, and get those that are homeless housed. I believe in building more places like "The Studios" with their own room provided to find housing. Many homeless won't stay in a shelter. I can not imagine my homeless friends being jailed for being homeless. It's dehumanizing.
