Wichita, Kansas is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States without passenger rail service, which is not acceptable. 

Amtrak has made various proposals to extend the Heartland Flyer to Newton, Kansas via Wichita, though nothing has come to fruition yet. This needs to change NOW. Wichita last saw service when Amtrak discontinued the Lone Star in 1979. This is NOT acceptable. Service MUST be restored now. The old train station in Wichita is currently undergoing renovations. Plus if the extension comes to fruition, it'll connect with the Southwest Chief at the Newton Train Station.
