This proposed law is such an insidious thing. It would invent a new crime that would specifically target a group of people. I can think of a few times that's happened in American history. Vagrancy laws, as an example, were invented to criminalize black folk. This is very similar. It would invent a new kind of fraud...

Students have the right to feel comfortable in their school. School should not make students feel uncomfortable or unheard. Forcing students to display their dead name can make students become fearful. Protect the identity of transgender students or those who simply dislike their name. At my school we must display our illegal name. I've been ridiculed and poked fun of. Do not allow this to happen to your students. Students should strive for their education, not fear someone will see their legal name and be outed and made even bullied. Think of the students. Think of the future.
Alex supported: Allow all students to use preferred names in school statewide.
Im close with so many people who dont use their legal name and i NEVER EVER want them have to be called the wrong name and get disrespected.
A supported: Allow all students to use preferred names in school statewide.
I’ve been going by my name since middle school. People at the high school have no idea that it isn’t my legal name. I am scared to lose control over something so simple yet fundamental to my identity by allowing others to know my legal name. My parents already gave their permission to change my name in the system, why is it an issue now?
Tragedy supported: Allow all students to use preferred names in school statewide.
im just a regular person but i have many friends who have preferred names and it sucks how they have to be called a name that they aren't really comfortable with anymore like why is it so important its called a deadname for a reason i do know there deadnames but i havent called them by that since before they told me their preferred names im hoping that we can get enough signatures for this petition

I am a parent in the district and strongly believe this change is harmful for our students. We must stand with transgender students, non binary students, any student who wants to have ownership over their identity. This change will do harm daily as the use of PowerSchool is pervasive in student’s schooling. There must be a better way to deal with the challenge the school district is presenting as justification. We must show true ally ship for our youth, complying fully with the policies of acceptance and support already adopted by the board. I stand with all LGBTQ students and community members.
Paige supported: Allow all students to use preferred names in school statewide.
People should be free to choose their own name. Removing that choice is a step in the wrong direction, moving us closer to a world where people are oppressed by those in power. I may not be located at this district anymore but my close friends will be severely affected by this. I stand firmly for the rights of humanity, equality, and choice.
Miriam supported: Allow all students to use preferred names in school statewide.
i'm a transgender male student who moved here last year from an incredibly unsupportive school where my life was in danger daily just because of my identity. i'm extremely disappointed that the school i feel safe at has chosen to roll out this policy, preparing for more regressive and bigoted policies in the future. i don't blame the school, but they need to know what they're doing is hurting both transgender students and other students who prefer a different name.
