Hello. I am a student at State College Area High School, currently a junior. I am a genderfluid student who typically goes by the name Kk, and up until now, for about 1 1/2 years, the school had no issue with this in its system, legally, or morally. But now, as of today the school has publicly announced that they will be forcing all students to return back to their legal names. With this, I have been contacted relentlessly with scared, angry, horrified messages from various students, including students who are simply allies of people who have name changes. This sudden change forces students to be stripped of their identity, expression of selves, and in many cases, hope for a future of self and public changes when it comes to expression and sexuallity. With this also arises the feeling of hopelessness, the rise of bullying and homophobia, and fear. I have so much more about this issue I am willing to say and explain, but please participate in this petition. The numbers in this will be used in a speech to many school leaders, including the principal, board directors, and more.
