It is madness that we don’t have one.
I have been asking since my kids started Kinder 14 years ago!! Every week I see at least one near miss, often more.
Save our kids.
I live in Victoria st Williamstown and I’ve been on about a pedestrian crossing for years! especially at the Osborne st intersection where many kids are crossing Victoria dangerously st to go to the Bayview st high school. I’ve seen many near misses. It’s also VERY important to have a pedestrian crossing with Traffic lights! and lots of lighting! To completely stop the well known speedsters!
I can see children crossing at Victoria Street and Osborne each day. Its so dangerous without a pedestrian crossing. We need to look after our kids and keep them safe.
I'm signing because I am deeply concerned about the safety of e-scooters, not only for the rider, but also to pedestrians including children. Head trauma statistics from e-scooter accidents are alarming. If not carefully managed, they will be left all over the suburb, as is seen in other areas. Council should reconsider these funds for something more valuable to our community.
I contacted the council several years ago after witnessing and experiencing several close calls on McLaurin Road. Given the Kinder, lack of space from footpath to road, several blind intersections, and a relatively straight cut through from Koornang to Murumbeena road, something has to be done. The council installed a traffic monitoring device (during the end of covid) and determined there was no need. However the woman I spoke to acknowledged it was a relatively long stretch connecting two major roads (albeit with a modest diversion down "the cross over" or up sheparson) which was a primary criteria for them. Look at virtually every other road behind mclaurin and there is some form of traffic control... speed bumps, chicane, etc. Something needs to be done before there is an accident and someone gets hurt!
I live in the area and regularly exercise in the morning when there is a timed restriction for turning into McLaurin Rd from Murrumbeena Rd. Unfortunately I see this restriction ignored daily. Further interventions like speed limit reductions without enforcement won't change the behaviour of drivers or the safety of the area. There needs to be physical traffic control measures installed on the road. Parking should also be limited to 1 side of McLaurin Rd for the length of the road. There should be footpaths built on both sides of the road. There is a small hill on the road meaning that you cannot see the cars coming towards you on either side of this hill. You cannot have pedestrians including children forced to cross the road just to continue walking on a footpath, on the sloping edge of the hill. This is an accident waiting to happen.
I have owned my property on McLaurin Road since 2004. The amount of speeding non-local thoroughfare traffic has increased rapidly & moreso in the last 5 years. Even with a high speed accident occurring in the last two years near the corner of Tranmere Avenue and McLaurin Road where two cars collided head on and hit a house fence on this intersection.
Myself & my 3 young children who walk along the one sided footpath provided, often walk our dogs & need to cross the road to access our house where we've had to be very cautious with oncoming speeding cars.
I do the correct thing and carefully reverse park into my driveway but get beeped & aggravated drivers speed up behind me cursing at me whilst I have my children in my car, as they are in a rush to speed down McLaurin Road. Often when reverse parking, some cars are speeding through and overtake me as I’m trying to complete my reverse parking with these cars nearly causing an accident by weaving around my car which is completing my parking. I reverse park into my driveway so I can see when driving my children to school each day so I have a clear vision of all the speeding cars and not to have an accident; especially at that school drop off peak time as the non locals/ non neighbours use McLaurin Road as their access to cut through the Neerim road/murrumbeena Road /Koornang Roads traffic jams & lights on their way to work.
On another note, myself & my neighbours enjoy celebrating a community event of Trick or Treating for our local Children each Halloween, however, Halloween in 2024 there were a few drivers that were frustrated with us enjoying the community atmosphere & sped up & down McLaurin Road not careful whilst many children & families were out on the road. I actually was needing to help children cross back and forward across the road to various houses partaking in this Trick or Treating event which took place during the drive home from work between 5pm -7pm time frame.
The non neighbour & non local drivers do not adhere to the 50km per hour speed limit in local roads law. I could continue on & on, but by signing this petition, I hope the Glen Eira City Council listens to the concerns of the local residents at McLaurin Road and take action to keep our children, families, pets & streets safe.

McLaurin Rd needs one (south) side of parking only plus speed humps at the end of each street entering it at the end (where it is a T junction). Ppl do not look both ways or stop properly for that matter. There should also be no parking for 50m near Murrumbeena Rd end, on either side of McLaurin, between 7-9am and 4-6pm everyday. Plus speed traps along McLaurin for sure. Have lived here 20 years and it's gotten alot worse in the past few years - speeding, not stopping/giving way, not looking both ways when entering etc.
The loss of functionality for our roads for both children and disabled people is ridiculous. Add to this the constant tar in our garage and having to wipe down tyres every single time we come back is unsustainable. I would love to know if this has been done to any street that a councillor lives in. Shame on you Shellharbour Council for this appalling and poorly thought out downgrade.
