The issue

As residents of the Rosebery community, we are deeply concerned about the proposed development at the dual address 1-3 Rosebery Avenue and 45-55 Epsom Road, Rosebery.

The scale of this development threatens to overshadow our homes and negatively impact our community. It will have DIRECT impact to thousands of residents.

The NSW Government, the developer and their proposed development application (SSD 87119707) is slated to rise far above the existing Rosebery skyline, posing significant risks to our health and quality of life.

It is not just more out-of-scale buildings on the horizon; it represents a looming disruption to our daily lives and will negatively change the character and landscape of Rosebery forever.

The proposed development will see:

  • 320 apartments
  • 3 high-rise towers; 2 of these towers will reach approximately 70 metres in height (22 to 25 storeys)
  • apartment tower heights of more than double the height of any residential building in Rosebery
  • buildings approximately 3 times the height of Valentino Place and the Gallery apartments that are immediately next door
  • shops including an unnecessary supermarket increasing traffic congestion and noise

The overshadowing development will block sunlight, a natural and critical source of energy and mental well-being. Studies have shown that a lack of natural sunlight can lead to increased risks of depression and other health issues.

Our children deserve to grow up in a place where they see sunlight in their home, and where their health and happiness are not compromised by towering walls of concrete. Moreover, the blockage of natural light will increase our energy costs as we attempt to compensate with artificial lighting and heating to warm our homes.

Beyond the loss of sunlight, the development directly threatens to increase noise pollution and traffic congestion—issues that already challenge our community on a daily basis. The proposed development will worsen these problems, resulting in decreased safety for both pedestrians and vehicles.

We urge the NSW Government to reconsider and reduce the height and width of the proposed development. Adjusting the scale of the project will see that the Rosebery landscape, community and quality of life retained.

With this petition, we call on all residents and the Rosebery community to join us in taking a stand. We need the support of our friends, colleagues, and neighbours.
