Not to detract from issue in downtown TO, but this is also happening in the Etobicoke suburbs. We have had attacks on small leashed dogs, and brazen followings almost into building doors in our area, and perhaps it is due to construction at Centennial Park also. Similar descriptions of what city advises to do has been followed, (keep on leash, don’t feed, make loud noises with umbrella of garbage bags), to no avail. I’m sure the coyotes would appreciate being relocated where they can raise their pups without fear city hazzards. They just don’t know how to get to more open spaces. Euthanasia is extreme measure, and the city might not have had to do that if they had handled it earlier/differently.

I call the deputy mayor the representative for my neighborhood and received via direct comment the same ineffective recommendation. This was after I witnessed an attack right outside my condo and even got the video of the attack on a dog and then the coyote followed the man right to the building entrance.....then the coyote seemed to cross Bathurst St. (A busy street) something the city says will not happen. I also have heard that Fort York itself is feeding the coyotes against city rules keeping us all at risk. If this is true then the city and Fort York should be subject to a class action lawsuit.

My dog and I recently had an unsettling encounter with a coyote near Garrison Park. I believe this issue warrants attention, as the presence of wildlife in densely populated urban areas poses safety concerns for both residents and animals. Ontario is home to vast green spaces and forests that are more suitable habitats for these animals. It’s neither fair to the wildlife nor to city dwellers for this situation to go unaddressed.
