Ms. Jaffe has done so much for me and all of her students. So many theater kids finally found a place to belong. I know this class will never be the same without her.

To my knowledge, both last year and this year, Ms. Jaffe has been a humorous, understanding, and leading teacher. These are the teachers needed to make change and open up students minds with a refreshing and creative elective after or in between many core subjects. It is for the school and the students’ own advantage to keep these teachers and not be short sighted and cut the entire elective with its extraordinary teacher out of the school campus.

I was an ACTS student when I was a kid. It was incredibly formative for me, but people outside of ACTS also deserve the chance to do fine arts programs. It is the happiest I have seen my brother in a long time.

My name is Cami Poore, I am 15 years old and have had some form of art in my life since I was 18 months old. I started getting into drama and theatre when I went through the ACTS program and did my first play in 8th grade. Since then I have done three theatre shows and am about to do two more. So why is the program so important to me? Theatre has put so many important people into my life and created an amazing family of people who have the same passion and love for drama and the arts as I do. It has brought a passionate group of people together that just want to share their talent and passion for the arts, and together work hard to create an amazing group of performers. Together we have come together and taken what we are good at and put it on display for people. Us all, dancers, actors, singers, and artist have worked so hard every time to put on a great show. Many of my close friends have worked so hard and grown such a passion for drama that they want to dedicate there career to theatre after high school; however, if the program is removed, us freshman, sophomores, and juniors will have to finish our high school experience without the class that has built the most character in most of us and that has also give us the skill for if we wanted to continue this career after high school. We also have now have been raising our own money to contribute to our shows, so I’m not very understanding why funding would be an issue if we raise our own money if that is something that the district was worried about. Taking away the theater department from the high school and not the middle school would also not make any sense, I’m also not saying that it should be taken away from the middle schoolers, however it would make no sense to build up these young actors and artists there whole middle school experience just for them to not have it in high school that gives them an expansion of what an elevated musical is. I also understand that they have offered to do it after school, however, there are so many students who have extracurricular activities after school, where the school needs them for a sport or club, forcing them to choose between two things that they love. In conclusion these talented and amazing artists in my life I have no clue where I would be in life without them. So I beg, please do not take the one thing that most of us look forward to each day.

I’ve been a student of this program for just a year, and have already fallen in love with it. I’ve made some of my closest friends through this class. I won’t let the district put an end to our performances. It’s time to end this madness.

I would not be the person I am today without the band program at my high school. Not only has it made me a better musician, but it’s made me a better person overall. It’s given me an environment where I can truly be myself surrounded by people who truly support and care about me. Taking away the arts programs will take away that supportive environnement for so many students, and it will change the school as a whole for the worse.

As a student who has taken a Theatre class for the first time and Dance for the second time. I have never felt so comfortable with a group of people before. Theatre helped me come out of my shell and actually show my true self to others. I loved the feeling of performing in front of others and expressing different parts of myself. I was hoping to continue doing these things.

Dude, the fine arts program has opened so many doors and opportunities in my life. I’ve always loved art, and due to the ACTS program, I was able to get more lessons, improve, and I even met so many new people who changed my life for the better. You can’t take that away from me, nor the newer kids going into ACTS. It was a wonderful three years, and I would do it over again any day, any time, any place. I cannot stress enough how much effort and commitment I have put into this program, and in return I’ve received so many great things in life. This program has allowed me to express my passion, my talent. This may not be the best writing ever, but I got to be ME, and enjoy what I do. I was able to express what I truly knew I wanted and still want to pursue. It gave me friends, support I needed, and the opportunity to do what I truly love.
