I live within 2 miles of where they are planning to build this plant outside Savoy and it is dangerous. We do not need it here. We live in a rural community that is safe. The Savoy School is also within 2 miles of the proposed plant. Please help us. Thank you!
The land around the Moss Landing BESS plant is still being tested. So far they have found heavy metals in the top 1-2" of soil so it can not be used for vegetable gardens or grazing. There is no way to clean it off houses so I expect they wil have to be demolished and unless they remove the top 1-2" inches of soil, it will not be able to be used for even housing for many years.
I’m a retired EMT who has worked in the East Texas area for almost 10 years. Van Zandt County doesn’t have the resources or manpower to handle an emergency situation at a facility like this. They would need mutual aid from surrounding areas and HAZMAT would be a minimum of 45 minutes away. Not to mention if this facility did catch fire, there’s no way the company running it would do their part to deal with the damage. They care about money. Not people. This facility would present an unnecessary risk to our Fire and EMS crews that are already over worked and underpaid, with no assurance that the company will actually do right by the county if it goes up in flames.
The 48 acres proposed for this storage facility is absolute nonsense! This wasting valuable agricultural land, not to mention the proximity of civilian homes! My church is right next to where this place is supposed to go! What kind of ecological impacts will this have? And how are we supposed to believe any possible good can come from this?! I have lived in van Zandt county for 24 years, and the changes that I have witnessed have been far from the positive influence that’s been promised. City expansion only guarantees a larger carbon footprint. And adding a “green facility” which increases a massive fire and safety hazard for the citizens of our communities is not doing us any favors.
I'm a 27 year retired firefighter/ Fire Marshal out of Denison Texas. I now live north of Savoy Texas. The Lithium Ion storage facilities are the most dangerous operations that local fire departments have ever faced. They have invaded our personal safety and well being. For what reason? Money,Money,Money; plain and simple! We need immediate legislation to "Stop" these BESS facilities. Get them out of our country and in particular away from our children & grandchildren. It is time to keep our children safe. Remember the song resulting from the Waco Compound Fire; "17 little children." Almighty God give us your wisdom & strength. I'll keep doing my part! Will you do yours? "

A lot of of my extended family members grew up in the Whitton/Canton area my family and my ancestors would fight tooth and nail to keep from having this poison in our communities much less TEXAS as a whole it would get into the aquifur and eventually the lakes and streams. So for me and my family members and my ancestorial family that have past; WE VOTE NO!!!
Turning fertile agricultural land into facilities for the storage of lithium batteries (which spew toxic chemicals if they catch fire) is part of the destruction of our food system and the West. No lithium storage facilities in Van Zandt County. Save farmland in East Texas!
The Savoy B.E.S.S facility with 281 Lithium Ion battery storage containers are located on my back fence. I worry about the air, soil and water if there were a thermal runaway. My land and livestock will never be the same!
I've lived in wise for 30 years. I live 3 miles from where this liuthium plant is going to be and I have grandkids and cattle to worry about. We don't have man power; fire fighters that can take care of bad situations in this area. Also, there is a pipeline that's not far from this area too.
Please look into what happened with EXIDE in Frisco, TX! Still not cleaned up. The company filed bankruptcy & left millions of dollars of environmental destruction behind. Keep our environment clean and safe!
