I am extremely upset with the decision of RMNP to ban motorized boats. We retired to this area and a huge selling feature was the ability to boat and fish Clear Lake. Followed all the rules in 2024 to allow the park to attempt their failed experiment. Attended the open house in February where I met with the park superintendent and media relations officer who assured me motorized boats would be on Clear Lake this summer and heard nothing to the contrary until the recent decision. We were lied to!

As a long time Clear Lake boater, this is a devastating decision with politics at a high level making the decision with little or no reasoning on why it is being done last minute. We were assured in January we’d be able to have power boats on the lake, the change in decision last minute on the Friday before the holiday weekend is unacceptable. Families have invested significant dollars in knowing we could be on the lake this summer and being told monitoring on the spread in the lake is required is ridiculous. The winds were gusting to 80 km/hr yesterday which would be spreading the zebra mussels naturally, boats aren’t the problem they’re already in the lake, you can’t change that. Do the right thing and let us power boat this summer.

Parks Canada has had so many flaws in the process of keeping the public in the loop and asking for the opinion of the people who actually pay the taxes to keep the lights on for the places we love. Keeping boats out of Clearlake is just another example of flawed agendas, impacting the people who contribute the most to the spaces by using them, paying forward tradition and ultimately making memories. It’s a real issue because the large contributors to the community specifically in riding Mountain national Park area, are the ones who are cabin owners and not owners - I myself along with multiple other families, have expressed interest in leaving due to the fact of the pure bureaucracy that surrounds the decision making. I’d highly suggest to the governing body that making a change would be wise otherwise there won’t be something to build off of in the future for this park.

Our family which includes my wife, our son and his wife, our grandson and his wife and their two daughters have enjoyed boating, tubing, skiing, swimming and picnics on Clear Lake. It breaks all of our hearts that all of that has been taken away from us. Why are some of the amenities of our national park that were offered to all of us Canadians and visitors to our great nation are now cold and heartlessly snatched from us. We bought our cottage at Clear Lake as a family and developed it over many years. We take pride in our surroundings and treat them with the utmost of respect and gratitude. It’s a sad day when such is not reciprocated by our public servants who have chosen to selflessly cease to serve the public.

Boating at Clear Lake has been a major factor in our family's enjoyment of the Park for decades. There is absolutely no science behind Park's decision other than to unilaterally decide to ban power boats, without any consultation, acting in bad faith and destroying a key fabric of enjoyment. Unbelievable, hurtful and uncaring. Time for removal of those involved in this decision.

Seems Parks Canada has another agenda regarding motorized boats on Clear Lake. Trailered boats, along with the cabled one boat - one lake process was and still is the best mitigation for managing the spread of muscles. Do we really think that all the other watercrafts and inflatables are not major contributing factors. Something is 'fishy'. The lack of transparency does nothing but create a lack of trust regarding any communications from Parks Canada. Long time summer resident at Clear Lake

Our family time is spent on the boat at Clear Lake, RMNP. We are devastated by the lack of clear, honest and timely communication from Parks Canada.

Throughout my life I have spent many summers up in Riding Mountain. The culture surrounding the lake itself is a major component in why individuals invest into the surrounding areas. I fear that with the removal of motor boats, this community will struggle to grow, and the overall atmosphere of the park will diminish.

The sudden decision to ban motorized watercraft on Clear Lake has devastated families, Cottagers, business owners, tourism, and various other key stakeholders in the community. There is absolutely no reason to keep boats off the lake, the zebra mussels are beyond the stage where they can be eradicated, the focus should be on adaptation, education and preventing the spread downstream, which the “one boat, one lake” rule achieves. Families purchased boats, serviced watercraft, planned vacations ; businesses hired staff, and then to pull the rug out from under neath everyone without warning or any communication whatsoever?? This shows a complete lack of respect and someone needs to be held accountable!

Since I was a little girl I’ve been going to clear lake with my family and boating and swimming was one of the main activities we all looked forward too. Let us back on the lake! Life is way too short for this kind of restriction and why tear us away from enjoying the beautiful accommodations we have been given to utilize? The government will make it easy for people to use drugs and go out of there way to make safe use sites but when it comes to being able to enjoy the beautiful things in life for the natural highs is being denied makes no sense.
