I grew up in District 11, then District 38 for highschool. As an almost 40 year old, I still talk with fondness about my snow days in Colorado Springs. From the snow forts with neighborhood kids to sliding down the streets, it was part of being "from Colorado." As I tell my own child, we should always strive to make things better for those that come after us, not worse. Removing the joy of multiple snow days gives little chance of them being cemented as a joyful memory - instead it risks kids being resentful of missing an opportunity for play. Please restructure the schedule, and show these kids that advocating for what matters to you works!

As a parent of two, both of which conducted remote learning during the pandemic I fully support this. Remote learning, in our experience was not beneficial to our kids. They did not get basic skills needed, and taught in the classroom while sitting behind a computer.

We know that e-learning is less effective for children at every age group. It makes no sense to switch from having snow days when kids can't be in school due to inclement weather to having e-learning days. It's not like it removes any burdens on parents either. Ideally all snow days are added back, including those that extend the school year, but this is an amazing start. Thank you Academy School District for listening!

I work in a High school in Maryland. Snow days are the delight of a students & staff. E-learning to erase snow days is not a viable option that increases stress and erodes the joy & well being provided by snow days. Keep up your civic activism!

I was born and raised in Alaska, where it snowed for 7 or 8 months out of the year. But we did get days off school when the temperatures dropped to -50 degrees. But I hope today's kids will get their precious snow days.

As a retired ASD20 teacher, I was around when we switched to E-learning days. This was, by far the most ineffective solution possible. When half your class does not log in, you (the teacher) still need repeat the lesson. Additionally, not all of D20 teachers (can afford to) live in D20. I lived 14 miles away from the school I taught at, and had to plan my route each day based on weather, during snow days there were even more complications. Safety is an issue, and I always appreciated when a day would actually be called. More often than not, I spent the day grading. Kids might put ice cubes in the toilet, or wear their PJ’s backwards, my trick was to always bring home and extra 8 hours of grading or planning, just in case I could get it done while looking out the window at the beautiful Colorado snow fall!!!

Kids have so little time to play and be themselves as it is. Taking away snow days is every bit as bad as reducing recess, or worse. Let kids be kids. Let them play in the snow!

As an educator in a district that also took away traditional snow days for remote learning days, I see firsthand how these are not effective learning days. Participation among students is inconsistent with many parents excusing their students from online learning. This makes it difficult to teach anything meaningful as so many students are missing and will need to be caught up when they return to school. Also, I don't see online learning as very effective for the elementary grades.

E-learning days are very stressful for teachers and students. As a teacher, a majority of my day is spent trying to problem solve tech issues for my students. I don't think very much learning gets done. I end up having to reteach the same concepts when we return in person.

I grew up in D20 and appreciate local districts that allow snow days to be snow days. E-learning days are not high quality education, so why are we making everyone bend over backwards to do it if it's not even valuable? Teachers and students are simply checking a box that just monopolizes everyone's day rather than allow them joy, self-care, time with family, or the ability to fully care for and enjoy their own children who are at home too. It's expected to have several snow days per year in this area, so why abide by a policy that has little to no educational benefit, contributes to the stress of constituents, and just stands in denial of the reality of our Colorado winters?
