Skateparks provide a crucial space for skaters to practice their craft and build a community. Petitions under this topic often focus on the need for more funding and resources to maintain or build new skateparks. Some highlight the lack of safe and accessible skate facilities in certain areas, particularly in underserved communities. One petition calls for the construction of a new skatepark in a city park to provide a safe environment for skaters of all ages. Another petition advocates for regular maintenance and improvements to an existing skatepark to ensure it remains a vibrant hub for local skaters. By supporting these petitions, you can help create inclusive spaces for skaters and promote a sense of belonging within the skateboarding community.
I am a teacher in Vineland. Our older students (middle and high school) need spaces to get out and move their bodies without having to join organized sports teams.
This is something a lot of the locals are very passionate about, it’s a friendly community and the most organic conversation I’ve ever had. Personally I struggle with any form of conversation and these skateboarders and bmxers and scooter riders have brought me out of my shell and opened me up to new avenues to feel less uncomfortable around people. Every time I see my friends I’m greeted with a smile and fist bump, I think if you have the ability and resources to build something you should let the community help with ideas and time. There’s plenty of people around here willing to work on the park itself if it’s what it takes to get a ball rolling on this thing myself included.
